“Thank you SO much!!!”
Since the pilot program for our Y.E.S. Dialogues™ was completed, we have gained much momentum! Working in partnership with the LAPD’s Community Relationship Division our work of providing next steps for building bridges between Youth and Law Enforcement in our city has expanded — and there are some very exciting things on the horizon, which will include many more partners and an anchoring of this critical work like never before… You absolutely must stay tuned!!
Originally the Y.E.S. acronym stood for “Youth Expecting Support”, and now the youth in Los Angeles have “graduated” to a deeper and more far-reaching position of leadership where Y.E.S. = “Youth Evolving Society!” The young people in our city are choosing to come to the table as equally-responsible leaders… And, the work that is now being done is shining a “light” on them as genuine change-agents and conscious thinkers prepared to show up and get the job done!!!
The mission of the Y.E.S. Dialogues™ series is to engage youth in the process of creating more effective ways to keep them safe in encounters with the police. It is our feeling that young people provide a particular brand of “future thinking”, and that youth can easily “influence others” through social-media and the life-shaping culture that they share with their peers. Our goal is to reverse the longstanding poor relationships with police and address the fears that give rise to police shootings and a dangerous adversarial atmosphere that results in violence. We are starting here in Los Angeles, and we are committed to outreach to other cities nationwide as well.
We are asking YOU — people who care — to join us in our efforts, which also includes your generous financial gifts… Young people have always needed adult support; however, today’s youth can provide guidance to us as well, for they are more than capable of being evolutionary thinkers and serving as positive change agents and leaders. Therefore, the Next 50 Years Project is embracing “cross-generational leadership” by calling on young minds to assist us to address police-involved tragedies – especially incidents that involve people of color – and to help us to transform the conditions that have produced violent acts being directed at the police as well. All sides are being stereotyped as wrong-doers, and these negative images are serving to breed mistrust, fuel the racial divide, constantly generate fear and keep breaking our hearts due to the senseless loss of life for both citizens & officers.
In other words, our mission is to collectively create a brighter and safer future…
And, it goes without saying that a project like this is long overdue…
